Alcaraz Stands Firm on Sinner World No.1 Prediction, Vows to Fight Back
Alcaraz Reaffirms Sinner No.1 Claim, Promises Battle

Carlos Alcaraz Doubles Down on Jannik Sinner World No.1 Claim

Tennis world number one Carlos Alcaraz has reinforced his controversial prediction that rival Jannik Sinner will soon seize the ATP top ranking, admitting his earlier comments "caused a stir" but vowing to mount a fierce battle to retain his crown.

Alcaraz Acknowledges Ranking Pressure

The Spanish sensation conceded this week that he is "gonna lose the No. 1 of the world" to Sinner, and has since stood by those remarks while issuing a warning to his Italian competitor. Alcaraz emphasised that he won't relinquish the top spot without a determined fight, setting the stage for an intense rivalry throughout the clay court season.

Defending Points Presents Challenge

As the current Australian Open champion, Alcaraz faces the daunting task of defending thousands of ranking points over the coming weeks following his stellar clay season performance last year. During that period, he claimed three titles and achieved a runner-up finish in Barcelona, while Sinner was absent from portions of the clay court circuit due to a suspension.

This situation presents Sinner with a significant opportunity to boost his points tally simply by participating in upcoming tournaments. Both players have already progressed to the last sixteen in Monte Carlo, with Sinner facing Czech star Tomas Machac and Alcaraz taking on Argentina's Tomas Martin Etcheverry.

Strategic Improvements Planned

Despite not yet losing his top ranking, Alcaraz is already plotting how to sharpen his game to maintain his status as the world's finest player. Speaking exclusively to Eurosport, he revealed: "I have some ideas. The serve, obviously. I've already invested so much time in that area, not just on the court but also off it. How to improve the movement, the toss, the technique, the feel. I've really worked on that; it's crucial for me to visualise it both on and off the court."

Rivalry Intensifies

Addressing the Sinner rivalry directly, Alcaraz stated: "Getting back to Jannik and the world number one ranking, I saw that my statement caused a stir. But I mean it. He has several important tournaments coming up where he can earn a lot of points. I have to defend some, and I can't defend them all. It's going to be tough, but that's also what makes our rivalry so exciting. He's going to become world number one again, and I'm going to push him as far as I can to take that spot back. This duel for the top spot has been fantastic so far."

Strong Start in Monte Carlo

Following an early exit in Miami last month, Alcaraz has made an impressive start in Monte Carlo. The top seed cruised past Sebastian Baez with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory as he launched his campaign to defend his title. The unexpected break in his schedule allowed Alcaraz valuable recovery time, which appears to have paid dividends.

He disclosed: "I played a lot of golf. It was non-negotiable. I took five days off completely with my family and friends. For me, that was more than enough. Then, I switched back on, I returned to the court to prepare for the clay court season. The transition between hard courts and clay is sometimes complicated, so I wanted to have a good week."

This strategic rest period seems to have rejuvenated the champion as he prepares for the challenging clay court battles ahead, where every point will count in the escalating contest for tennis supremacy.
