England secured top spot in World Cup Group L with a 2-0 victory over Panama at New York New Jersey Stadium on Tuesday night. Goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane ensured the Three Lions finished the group stage unbeaten.
Bellingham and Kane on Target
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring in the first half with a clinical finish, before Harry Kane doubled the lead from the penalty spot after the break. The win means England progress to the knockout stage as group winners.
According to David Hytner, who was at the stadium, England dominated possession and created several chances. Panama struggled to mount any serious threat, with England's defense remaining solid throughout.
Group Stage Dominance
England's victory capped a perfect group stage performance, having won all three matches. The team now looks ahead to the round of 16, where they will face a yet-to-be-determined opponent.
“We’re delighted with the performance and the result,” said England manager Gareth Southgate. “The players have worked hard, and it’s great to see them executing the game plan.”
Panama, meanwhile, exit the tournament after failing to secure a point. Scotland also failed to advance from the group.
