Cardiff incident believed to be hoax
The BBC report that the security incident during Northampton Saints' clash with Cardiff Rugby on Sunday night is believed to have been a hoax. Northamptonshire Police officers were summoned to DPD Stadium at Franklin's Gardens at around 7pm on Sunday, October 18, following threats during the second half, with enquiries ongoing.
A Northamptonshire Police spokeswoman said: "Police officers were called to the Franklin's Gardens Stadium in Weedon Road, Northampton, yesterday (October 18) at about 7pm, following threats made via social media. As a precautionary measure, players from both teams left the field of play immediately following the final whistle. Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing and we are working closely with both the Saints and our policing partners on the investigation."
Cardiff apologised to supporters in their own statement after the final whistle. The club said: "Our sincerest apologies to travelling supporters, players and staff were moved down the tunnel as quickly as possible after the full-time whistle due to a safety issue. Thank you for your fantastic support throughout tonight's match, and we'll see you at the Arms Park next Friday."
Conan injury concern for Ireland
Jack Conan has handed Ireland head coach Andy Farrell concerns ahead of their Nations Championship games this autumn. Conan picked up a shoulder injury against Clermont Auvergne over the weekend that will require further assessment. Tests are reportedly taking place today, with the Irish Mirror stating unless they show a clean bill of health, it will make Conan doubtful for Ireland's November Tests.
With Caelan Doris already on the treatment table, Farrell will be hoping for positive news on Conan. Ireland face Argentina, Fiji and South Africa over the next few weeks ahead of a finals day at Allianz Stadium Twickenham at the end of the year. Farrell will name his squad this week.
