Duhan van der Merwe became Scotland's all-time leading try-scorer as Gregor Townsend's side finished their autumn campaign with a commanding 56-0 victory over Tonga at Murrayfield. The winger's 35th international try moved him one clear of Edinburgh team-mate Darcy Graham in the country's record books.
Scotland, who made 14 changes from the side beaten by Argentina a week earlier, established control early. Tonga's Semisi Paea was shown a red card in the fifth minute for a dangerous clearout, reducing the visitors to 14 men for the remainder of the match. Scotland capitalised with three first-half tries from Jamie Ritchie, George Turner, and Max Williamson to lead 21-0 at the interval.
Turner's score was particularly significant as it came on his 50th cap. The hosts were mindful of their collapse against Argentina in the previous fixture, but any hopes of a Tongan comeback were extinguished by further indiscipline. Taniela Filimone and Fine Inisi were both shown yellow cards for deliberate knock-ons in the third quarter.
Van der Merwe crossed in the 59th minute after good work from George Horne, before substitutes Ewan Ashman and Horne each scored two tries in the closing stages to add gloss to the scoreline. The win provided some consolation for Scotland after defeats to New Zealand and Argentina had already defined their autumn series.
