Despite holding a six-shot lead on Friday night, what could have been a comfortable procession turned into a typically dramatic McIlroy performance. "It is great to be honest, to see a boy from our community achieve such great things," Woods said. "It pushes us to strive to do the best that we can to achieve the things that we love."
Eighteen-year-old Ollie Keown had traveled from Scotland under the guise of revising for exams but found time to cheer on McIlroy. He remarked that this year's victory felt even better than 2025's win, which had made him "more nervous" throughout.
"I'm just amazed, stunned – I loved every second of it," Keown said about the dramatic finish. Regarding his return to Scotland, he added humorously: "We'll see how long the celebrations last."
Another 18-year-old, Hamish Johnson, declared he "never doubted" McIlroy's ability to win, adding confidently: "He's got the potential to be the best ever."

Leah James, a member from Bangor who celebrated at Holywood Golf Club, told the Press Association that watching McIlroy's victory was "just fantastic." She recalled having to sneakily follow the action during night shifts last year, making this year's communal celebration particularly special.
Ms. James reflected on how McIlroy has brought tremendous interest to their club and described the back-to-back wins as "incredible." She observed: "He was just so calm and so collected this year and seeing him do it made my day – just happy for him."
