Anthony Joshua made his first public appearance since a fatal car crash in Nigeria last December, attending the heavyweight bout between Derek Chisora and Deontay Wilder at London's O2 Arena on Saturday night.
The 36-year-old former heavyweight champion lost two close friends and team members, Sina Ghami and Kevin Latif, in the accident. Joshua was travelling in a black Lexus Jeep that collided with a stationary truck on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
The driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, 46, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid licence. He appeared at Sagamu Magistrates Court in Ogun state in February.
Joshua returned to the UK in early January after being discharged from hospital and has since resumed training. Promoter Eddie Hearn told Sky Sports that Joshua will need time to heal before deciding on his boxing future, but believes he will want to return to the sport.
Saturday's fight saw British boxer Derek Chisora face American Deontay Wilder in what was Chisora's final bout before retirement. The 42-year-old had not fought since a unanimous decision win over Otto Wallin in February 2025.
