England lock Maro Itoje has described his British & Irish Lions teammates as "special" as the squad gears up for their final Test against Australia, aiming for a historic series whitewash.
The Saracens forward, a key figure in the Lions' dominant performances so far, praised the camaraderie and collective spirit within Warren Gatland's squad. "This group has something unique," Itoje said. "The way we've come together in such a short time is remarkable."
Leadership on and off the pitch
With captain Alun Wyn Jones rallying the troops one final time, Itoje emphasised the importance of strong leadership in high-pressure matches. "Alun's been phenomenal," he added. "His experience and composure have been invaluable throughout this tour."
Australia braced for Lions' final charge
The Wallabies face an uphill battle as the Lions look to complete a clean sweep in Sydney. Having already secured the series with victories in Brisbane and Melbourne, Gatland's men are determined to finish their Australian campaign in style.
"We're not done yet," Itoje warned. "This last match is about leaving everything on the pitch and creating history." The second-row powerhouse has been one of the standout performers of the tour, combining physicality at the breakdown with impressive lineout work.
A legacy in the making
Should the Lions complete the whitewash, it would mark their first series clean sweep in the southern hemisphere since 1974. For Itoje and his teammates, this represents an opportunity to cement their place in Lions folklore.
"These are the moments you play for," the 28-year-old reflected. "To be part of something this special with players from four nations coming together - it's what makes the Lions unique in world rugby."
