Hull City have confirmed that new signing Sorba Thomas is unharmed after he crashed his £60,000 Land Rover Defender and flipped it onto its roof on a residential street. Images circulating on social media on Friday morning showed the winger's vehicle overturned in the road, with shocked residents looking on and a club staff member, believed to be manager Sergej Jakirovic, present at the scene.
Club statement on the accident
The incident involving the £10.5million ace happened on Millhouse Wood Lane, near newly-promoted Hull's training facility. In a statement, Hull said: "Hull City is relieved to confirm that Sorba Thomas is unharmed following a road traffic accident near to the club's Cottingham training ground."
"The club is aware of images of Sorba's car circulating on social media and can reassure supporters that he has sustained no injuries and emerged from his vehicle completely unscathed."
Move from Stoke and early appearances
Thomas was signed by The Tigers from Stoke on transfer deadline day for a fee of £10.5million. The winger has already made two appearances for his new team, in the 0-0 stalemate with Aston Villa in the Premier League and the 1-0 loss to Sunderland in the Carabao Cup, reports the Mirror.
Hull are gearing up to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League at 3pm on Saturday.
Stoke departure explained
Last season, Thomas was honoured as Stoke's Player of the Year after contributing 10 goals and 13 assists across all competitions. His last-minute move to Hull caused quite a commotion at the club, leading to sporting director Jon Walters issuing a statement to address the situation.
"Although we are naturally disappointed with the way it has ended after just one season, I do understand that Sorba had an opportunity to play in the Premier League which, over the past few days, he has expressed a firm desire to take," he said. "We all thank him for his efforts last season and wish him well for the future."
