Hull KR head coach Willie Peters is determined to build on the club's historic 2024 season, despite the disappointment of losing the Super League Grand Final to Wigan Warriors. The 45-year-old guided the Robins to their first title decider since the mid-1980s, only to fall short in a 9-2 defeat at Old Trafford.
Peters believes the narrow loss will fuel his squad's hunger for success in 2025. "Falling short and a narrow loss against Wigan last year hurt, but it's got to make you hungry to want it, to achieve that little bit extra," he told BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Robins have been active in the transfer market, bringing in experienced winners such as New Zealand prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves from Sydney Roosters, Leeds back-rower Rhyse Martin, and Catalans Dragons hooker Michael McIlorum. Peters said: "We're happy with what we've bought in. They've fitted into the team extremely well. Certainly, they're going to add a lot of steel to us and experience."
McIlorum, 37, cited Peters' vision as a key factor in his move from Catalans. "I saw what Willie and Hull KR were doing last year when he gave me a call, and I spoke to him. I wanted to be a part of that and I want to try to win something," he told BBC Radio Humberside.
With a core of Man of Steel Mikey Lewis, captain Elliot Minchella, and a host of hard-running forwards, Peters is confident the Robins can go one better. "That's what it's going to take, it will take a little bit more," he said, as Hull KR aim to end their long wait for a league title.
