Match of the Day presenter Gabby Logan has reacted with delight to her son Reuben landing a rugby coaching role. The 21-year-old Sale Sharks back row has joined the Rugby for Manchester coaching team, helping to teach rugby in primary schools.
Reuben Logan's New Coaching Role
Reuben, who is 6ft 5in tall, remains focused on developing his game but has already begun sharing his skills on the pitch. He started against Gloucester in the Premiership Rugby Cup last month and has also featured for Caldy in the second tier and recently played for reserve side Sale Jets.
The Scotland U20 international is part of a renowned sporting family. His dad Kenny earned 70 caps as a wing for Scotland, while his mother Gabby represented Wales in rhythmic gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games.
Family Support and Reaction
Upon joining the coaching setup, Reuben said: "I'm really thankful that Owen and Stan have got me involved with Rugby for Manchester; it's a fantastic initiative that helps give children an opportunity to play rugby and get them involved in the sport."
The new job was announced on social media, with Gabby responding to the post with two raised-hands emojis. Retired rugby star Kenny mirrored the reply with three raised-hands emojis.
The scheme praised Reuben's early work, stating: "He's been an incredible addition to the team and his top tips have now been passed on to students at St Ambrose RC Primary School and Holy Name RC Primary School."
Rugby for Manchester Initiative
Rugby for Manchester is an initiative founded by University of Manchester students, aimed at removing barriers and improving accessibility to the sport.
Reuben left Northampton Saints to sign for Sale in 2025. Gabby has lauded his personal growth, saying on Sam Warburton's SW7 Academy YouTube channel in April: "I can see Reuben's maturity this year as a person. He is only 20, he is still so young but has changed so much, particularly his attitude towards professional life. He left home when he was 17 to go to Northampton. That's so young."
International Allegiance and Family Heritage
Despite being in the early stages of his career, Reuben's progress has often been in the spotlight given his sporting family. The flanker may have already switched his allegiance from England to Scotland, but he has also received pleas to declare for Wales.
During her conversation with Warburton, Gabby recalled a group of choristers attempting to recruit Reuben for Wales at the funeral of her father and Welsh football legend Terry Yorath. She said: "I am very proud of my Welsh heritage. Recently we lost our dad, and we had lots of Welsh people at his funeral in Leeds. There was also a fantastic choir from Cardiff that came up. There was about 50 of them, they'd all had a pint or two, and they were all asking Reuben if he'd consider switching allegiances!"
She added: "To be fair to Reuben, he's been Scottish since he was born. He played for the under-18s for England, then Kenny was a bit unsure whether to cheer for him that day! Kenny used to just shout, 'Come on Reuben!' He said, 'I can't shout, 'Come on England!'’"
