Christ Tshiunza, the forgotten Wales forward, scored a stunning individual try for Exeter Chiefs in their Gallagher Premiership semi-final against Bath at the Rec. The 24-year-old, who has not played for Wales since November 2024, produced a moment of magic that left commentators in awe.
Try of the season contender
With Exeter trailing 14-3, a clever pass from outside-half Harvey Skinner allowed Tshiunza to burst through a gap. He then sidestepped Bath full-back Santiago Carreras before diving acrobatically to score. TNT Sports commentator Nick Mullins described it as: "A play-off moment for the archives for the galloping giraffing Christ Tshiunza."
England's 2003 Rugby World Cup winner Ben Kay, now a respected pundit, was equally impressed. "Wow! What a finish from Tshiunza," Kay said. "He's got such a powerful running game, but he combines that with a bit of footwork. Santi is thinking 'I've got to stand big for this because he's going to run through me.' So he plants his feet to give him power in the tackle, and Tshiunza just dances round him. He's been watching far too much of Chris Ashton!"
Wales future uncertain
Tshiunza, wearing the number seven shirt against Bath, has won 15 caps for Wales. He was not included in Steve Tandy's summer squad for the inaugural Nations Championship. The versatile forward is leaving Exeter for Sale Sharks in the summer, raising questions about his eligibility under the Welsh Rugby Union's 25-cap law. If he did not receive a competitive offer from a Welsh club, he remains eligible for Wales selection. WalesOnline understands there was interest from Cardiff.
Injury has hampered Tshiunza in recent seasons, but his physical and athletic potential is undeniable. This try serves as a powerful reminder of his capabilities and a clear message to the Wales coaching staff.
