Wimbledon has published a comprehensive list of 46 items that are banned from the grounds, affecting hundreds of thousands of fans visiting SW19 each year. The restrictions cover bags, alcohol, media equipment, comfort items, signs, and general safety.
Bag and Container Restrictions
Bags must not exceed 40cm x 30cm x 30cm (16" x 12" x 12"). Backpacks, large shopping bags, and multiple bags are prohibited; each person is strictly limited to one bag. Hard-sided containers, rigid cool boxes, and traditional picnic hampers are not allowed; only soft-sided cooler bags are permitted. Vacuum flasks or dual-skin liquid containers over 500ml are also banned.
Alcohol Limitations
While bringing your own alcohol is allowed, it is heavily restricted. Banned items include spirits and fortified wines. The personal limit is strictly one bottle of wine or champagne (750ml) OR two cans of beer or premixed aperitifs (up to 500ml each) per person. Corked bottles, such as champagne, must be opened before entering court seating areas.
Media and Tech Equipment
Selfie sticks, monopods, tripods, gimbals, and similar attachments are prohibited. Professional photographic equipment and camera lenses extending beyond 300mm require prior authorisation. Drones and any remote-controlled aerial devices are strictly banned.
Comfort and Seating Items
Foldable picnic chairs, camping chairs, tents, gazebos, and parasols cannot be brought into the grounds, though limited exceptions apply for the overnight queue before entering the actual grounds. Oversized or golf umbrellas are also prohibited.
Signs, Noise, and Marketing
Items over 60cm x 60cm (2' x 2'), including flagpoles or banner poles, are banned. Any clothing or objects bearing overt commercial identification or political statements intended for promotional campaigns are not allowed. Rattles, klaxons, air horns, or any items making unreasonable noise that could disrupt play are prohibited.
General Safety Prohibitions
Weapons, sharp objects (including large corkscrews or knives), personal protection sprays, fireworks, flares, laser pointers, and spray paint are banned. Wheeled footwear, skateboards, scooters, and bicycles (except authorised mobility aids) are not permitted. Animals, except certified assistance dogs, are also banned.
