Team GB's Largest Winter Olympics Squad Heads to Italy

Great Britain has officially dispatched a final squad of 53 athletes to compete at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina, Italy. This total represents a notable increase of three competitors compared to the Beijing Games in 2022 and falls just short of the record 58 athletes sent to Pyeongchang in 2018. The late inclusion of biathlon duo Jacques Jeffries and Shawna Pendry has bolstered the team, making them the first British biathletes to appear at a Winter Games since 2018.

Unprecedented Medal Prospects for Team GB

Team GB arrives in Italy with an unprecedented number of medal opportunities, fueled by strong performances in World Cup events this season. Athletes have secured medals across various disciplines, including skeleton, bobsleigh, snowboarding, and freestyle skiing. Additionally, British curlers currently top the world rankings in both mixed doubles and men's events, raising hopes that the team could surpass the record of five medals achieved in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018.

Chef de Mission's Optimistic Outlook

Eve Muirhead, the chef de mission for Team GB, expressed her enthusiasm about the squad's composition. "I'm thrilled to be welcoming Jacques and Shawna to Team GB for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games," she stated. "This moment is a testament to the hard work they've put into achieving the dream of standing on that Olympic stage and I can't wait to see them in action. With their addition, our team for 2026 is now complete, and we're ready for the final push towards the Games."
