Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam, who is engaged to social media star and boxer Jake Paul, has clinched her place at the upcoming Winter Olympics in a dramatic turn of events following a recent crash on the ice.

Leerdam's hopes for the Milan 2026 Games were thrown into serious doubt last week after she suffered a nasty fall during a crucial qualification event. The crash occurred in her signature event, the 1000m distance, leaving her Olympic future uncertain.
However, in a remarkable comeback, the athlete personally announced her qualification on Instagram this Sunday. She revealed that she has been selected to compete not in one, but two events at the prestigious games.
A Dual Event Qualification
In her social media post, Leerdam explained her path to qualification. "See you in Milan for the 500 & 1000m!!!" she wrote. "After my fall in the 1000m, I refocused, bounced back and qualified for the 500m."
She provided further detail on the selection process, noting that only nine Dutch women in total can qualify for the Games. Leerdam secured her initial spot as one of those nine through her 500m performance.
The final opportunity came when one spot for the 1000m event remained available. The Royal Dutch Skating Federation (KNSB) made the decision to add Leerdam to the roster for that distance as well, completing her Olympic lineup.

Expressing both relief and joy, Leerdam highlighted a particularly satisfying aspect of the federation's decision. "What makes me happiest is that this decision doesn’t affect any other woman in the process," she stated, indicating that her addition did not come at the cost of another skater's dream.
