Verstappen to Race 24-Hour Endurance Amid F1 Complaints

Max Verstappen, the four-time Formula 1 world champion, has announced his participation in a 24-hour endurance race at the Nurburgring from 14 to 17 May. This marks his debut in such an event, where he will drive a Mercedes-AMG GT3 car for Verstappen Racing.

Verstappen's Criticism of F1 Regulations

The decision comes shortly after Verstappen voiced strong complaints about the controversial new regulations introduced in Formula 1. He criticised the rules, which include mandated battery power management and a boost button, describing the racing as "artificial" and akin to "Mario Kart". Verstappen expressed significant dissatisfaction with the current state of F1, stating he did not enjoy the racing and hinted at potentially quitting the sport if the rules are not changed.

Timing of the Endurance Race

The endurance event is scheduled to take place two weeks after the Miami Grand Prix and one week before the Canadian Grand Prix, fitting into his busy F1 calendar. This move highlights his desire to explore other racing formats amidst his frustrations with F1.
