Chapel Street, one of Melbourne's most vibrant shopping and dining precincts, was transformed into a chaotic scene over the weekend as hoon drivers took over the area, performing reckless burnouts and disturbing local residents.
Witnesses reported seeing cars spinning their wheels, screeching tyres, and revving engines late into the night, leaving behind thick smoke and rubber marks on the road. The noise and disruption angered locals, many of whom took to social media to express their frustration.
Police Response and Public Outcry
Victoria Police confirmed they received multiple complaints about the illegal car meet and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the offenders. Officers patrolled the area but were unable to catch the drivers in the act.
"This kind of behaviour is not only dangerous but completely disrespectful to the community," a police spokesperson said. "We are working to track down those responsible and will take appropriate action."
Residents Demand Action
