Former F1 Boss Christian Horner and Spice Girl Wife Geri Halliwell Enjoy Cheltenham Festival

As the Formula One season commenced in Australia last week, former Red Bull team principal Christian Horner and his wife, Geri Halliwell, traded the racing paddock for the prestigious Cheltenham Festival. The couple made a stylish appearance during the thrilling Gold Cup Day on Friday, where jockey Paul Townend secured a historic fifth Gold Cup victory aboard Gaelic Warrior.

A Day at the Races with Football Royalty

Christian and Geri, who own the racehorse Life Me Up, appeared to relish the festivities from a balcony vantage point. They later socialised with Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, who, at 84 years old, cut a sharp figure in a grey three-piece suit. The retired football manager, known for his own racing interests and a significant festival win last year, shared warm embraces and conversation with the pair.

Geri Halliwell, 53, showcased her signature style in an all-white ensemble, featuring a long coat layered over matching trousers and a jumper. She accessorised with a chic neck scarf and chunky grey boots, completing her look with a tweed flat cap and loose red waves. Christian Horner, 52, complemented her attire in a dapper three-piece tweed green suit.

The Spice Girl later posted a series of Instagram photos from the day, including snaps outside their horse's stable and a selfie with the animal. In one image with two jockeys and Sir Alex Ferguson, Geri captioned the photo simply 'Legend', highlighting the successful outing.

Behind the Scenes: Horner's Emotional F1 Departure Revealed

This public appearance comes weeks after the release of Netflix's Drive To Survive docu-series, which unveiled intimate details of Horner's sacking from Red Bull Racing. The long-serving team boss was removed midway through the 2025 season amid a suspected power struggle, following a prior sex-texting scandal that rocked Formula One.

Horner eventually departed in July with an £80 million settlement, but the series revealed his wife Geri had an ominous premonition. Footage shows Christian breaking the news to Geri in their kitchen conservatory, emotionally stating, 'All... all done and dusted.' When asked how he felt, Horner responded, 'I never imagined to be in this position... I've had something taken away from me that wasn't my choice, that was very precious to me.'

Geri confirmed she had warned him after the Austria race, saying, 'Something really bad's gonna happen' and predicting he would be fired. Scenes later showed the couple watching a race on television, with Christian lamenting the lack of data and Geri admitting she felt 'a bit sad watching this' as tears welled in her eyes.

Support Amid Scandal and Speculation

Geri Halliwell has been a steadfast supporter of her husband throughout his controversies. In February 2024, when suggestive messages allegedly from Horner were leaked, she flew to Bahrain to stand by him. He was later accused of sexual harassment by a female staff member, though internal investigations twice cleared him of wrongdoing.

In the Drive To Survive episode, Geri attempted to lighten the mood at their Cotswolds home, joking that Christian might be 'eating his feelings'. The pair later played by their swimming pool, with Horner pretending to throw her in before she affectionately called him a 't**t'.

Regarding the reasons for his sacking, Horner addressed speculation about star driver Max Verstappen and his father Jos, stating, 'His father has never been my biggest fan... But I don't believe the Verstappens were responsible in any way.' He attributed the decision to Oliver Mintzlaff with advice from Helmut Marko, suggesting that after founder Dietrich Mateschitz's death, he was 'deemed to have too much control'.

Looking to the Future

Since his departure, Christian Horner has expressed interest in returning to Formula One, telling the European Motorshow in Dublin last week that he has 'unfinished business in the sport'. He has been linked with rival constructors like Aston Martin but emphasised, 'I am not going to come back for just anything... I am only going to come back for something that can win.'

Horner admitted, 'I miss the sport, I miss the people, I miss the team that I built,' indicating a potential comeback under the right circumstances. For now, he and Geri continue to enjoy their shared passion for horse racing, as evidenced by their high-profile day at the Cheltenham Festival.
