Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc will serve 10-place grid penalties at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix, joining Max Verstappen, who starts from the back of the grid.
Both Ferrari drivers have taken a new internal combustion engine, exceeding their season allocation for the first time. This results in a 10-place grid penalty for each driver.
Verstappen starts from the back
It was confirmed earlier on Saturday that Verstappen will start Sunday's race from the back of the grid. The Red Bull driver has taken several new parts, incurring penalties worth more than 15 places, which is converted into an automatic back-of-grid start.
Interlagos is one of the remaining venues this season where overtaking is seen as being more simple than at other circuits, so teams that need to take a grid penalty for using more engine parts than allowed over a season are choosing to do so here.
Penalties galore in Sao Paulo
Hamilton and Leclerc join a growing list of racers who will serve grid penalties at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The pair are among several drivers penalised in Sao Paulo this weekend.
