Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari are on the march, with the Austrian Grand Prix seen as a key race to boost their championship hopes. The seven-time world champion has shown improved form in recent races, and Ferrari's latest upgrades have made the car more competitive.
Hamilton's Resurgence
Hamilton has finished on the podium in the last three races, including a victory at the Canadian Grand Prix. According to team principal Frédéric Vasseur, "Lewis is driving at an incredible level, and the team is fully behind him." The Austrian race, known for its high-speed corners and challenging layout, could suit the Ferrari's strengths.
Ferrari's Upgrades
Ferrari introduced a new floor and rear wing design at the Spanish Grand Prix, which has improved downforce and reduced drag. The upgrades have narrowed the gap to Red Bull, with Hamilton qualifying second in Spain. The team is optimistic about Austria, where they have historically performed well.
"We are bringing more updates for Austria, and we believe we can challenge for the win," said Vasseur. The Austrian Grand Prix is the ninth round of the season, and Ferrari currently trails Red Bull by 48 points in the constructors' championship.
Championship Implications
A strong result in Austria could be pivotal for Hamilton's title bid. He is currently 34 points behind championship leader Max Verstappen. With 14 races remaining, every point is crucial. Hamilton said, "We are taking it race by race, but we know we need to start closing the gap."
The Austrian Grand Prix takes place on July 5 at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Practice sessions begin on July 3, with qualifying on July 4.
