A devastating fire has completely destroyed a property belonging to NASCAR star Denny Hamlin, with two people rushed to hospital following the incident in North Carolina, USA.
Inferno Engulfs Property
The blaze erupted on the evening of Sunday, December 28, at Hamlin's residence in a wooded area. Dramatic images showed flames consuming the building, with approximately half of the structure already ablaze by the time the first firefighters arrived on the scene.
Chief David Toomey of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department confirmed the property was a "total loss". The 3,724-square-foot home, built in 2015, was registered to Hamlin's property firm, Won One Real Estate, and sat on 1.76 acres of land surrounded by woodland.
Major Firefighting Operation
Due to the remote location and limited access to fire hydrants, a significant emergency response was required. Between 10 and 15 fire departments were dispatched to tackle the fierce inferno.
Despite the extensive damage, crews managed a crucial salvage operation. Valuable vehicles and racing memorabilia belonging to the motorsport champion were successfully rescued from the garage area before they could be destroyed.
"They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved," Chief Toomey told The Athletic. "We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn't damaged."
Aftermath and Hamlin's Profile
The two individuals who required hospital treatment were outside the property when emergency services arrived. Further details on their condition have not been disclosed.
