Croke Park Chief Provides Update on Joshua vs Fury Dublin Rumours

Tyson Fury has reiterated his ambition for a 2026 clash with Anthony Joshua, sparking fresh speculation about a potential super-fight in Dublin. This comes just days after rumours circulated that the all-British heavyweight showdown could be staged in the Irish capital.

Dublin Venue Expresses Strong Interest

Peter McKenna, chief executive of Croke Park, has publicly expressed his desire to bring Anthony Joshua versus Tyson Fury to Dublin. His comments follow recent speculation from boxing promoter Kalle Sauerland, who suggested the fight might take place in Dublin this autumn, though sources have since tempered expectations.

"The real hope is that we will get Tyson Fury here later on in the year," McKenna told the BBC. "That would be such a world-billing event that we would be able to facilitate a Katie Taylor fight here."

McKenna was referencing Irish boxing legend Katie Taylor and her hopes of retiring after a final bout at Croke Park this year. He emphasised that multiple factors need to align for such events to materialise.

Multiple Factors Must Align

"A lot of stars need to align," McKenna continued. "Katie's manager needs to agree, Katie's promoter needs to agree, Tyson Fury's promoter needs to agree. I am very confident that all three are coming to the sense that [Taylor] is one of Ireland's greatest sporting athletes and it would be such a 'wow' to have her here – and for her to finish her career here."

The Independent has approached a representative of Taylor for comment on these developments.

Fury's Upcoming Fight and Joshua's Return

For the Joshua-Fury fight to become reality, Fury must first defeat Arslanbek Makhmudov this weekend at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This marks Fury's fifth comeback from retirement, with the former heavyweight champion looking to maintain his momentum.

Meanwhile, Anthony Joshua, aged 36, is expected to return to the ring this summer. He will likely face a different opponent before any prospective bout with the 37-year-old Fury. Joshua's boxing future was uncertain following a tragic car crash in December that killed two of his teammates in Nigeria.

That accident occurred just days after Joshua knocked out influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul in six rounds in Miami. Despite the tragedy, Joshua has returned to training, and his promoter Eddie Hearn has talked up a summer comeback for the former champion.

Broader Context and Future Prospects

The potential Joshua-Fury fight represents one of the most anticipated matchups in boxing, with Dublin emerging as a surprising but compelling venue option. Croke Park's interest adds a significant layer to the ongoing negotiations and rumours.

As the boxing world watches Fury's performance this weekend and Joshua's planned return, all eyes will be on whether the stars align for these monumental events in Dublin. The combination of a Joshua-Fury super-fight and Katie Taylor's potential retirement bout could make 2026 a landmark year for boxing in Ireland.
