Kimi Antonelli has been penalised for causing a collision with Charles Leclerc during the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. The Mercedes driver attempted an overtake on the inside of turn three but understeered into the rear-left wheel of Leclerc's Ferrari, sending the Monegasque into the barriers and ending his race.
The stewards handed Antonelli a 10-second time penalty for the incident, along with two penalty points on his racing licence. He now has four points in the current 12-month period. Additionally, Antonelli received a five-second penalty for speeding in the pit lane.
Despite crossing the line sixth, the penalties dropped him to 16th in the final classification, leaving the rookie without points and extending his difficult run since the European season began.
Leclerc, who climbed out of his wrecked car and watched the remainder of the race from a sand dune, was measured in his response. 'Mistakes happen on a track like this. He probably misjudged it and ruined my race, but it is what it is,' he said.
