Fernando Alonso has expressed concerns over Aston Martin's recent upgrades, admitting the team may have fallen behind in the fiercely competitive Formula 1 season.
The two-time world champion, who joined Aston Martin in 2023, revealed his frustrations after a challenging weekend at the latest Grand Prix. Despite high hopes for the new upgrades, Alonso suggested the improvements may not have delivered the expected performance boost.
Alonso's Honest Assessment
"We brought some new parts to the car, but honestly, I'm not sure we've made the step forward we needed," Alonso told reporters. "The competition is so tight this year, and every small detail counts. Right now, I think we're still lacking something."
The Spanish driver's comments come after a disappointing qualifying session where Aston Martin failed to break into the top five. Team principal Mike Krack acknowledged the challenges but remained optimistic about future developments.
Technical Troubles
Insiders suggest Aston Martin's aerodynamic upgrades haven't produced the desired downforce improvements, particularly in high-speed corners. This has left Alonso struggling to match the pace of rivals like Red Bull and Ferrari.
"When you're fighting for hundredths of a second, these small differences become massive," Alonso explained. "We need to analyse everything carefully before the next race."
Looking Ahead
With the championship entering its crucial phase, Aston Martin faces mounting pressure to deliver results. The team currently sits fifth in the constructors' championship, behind Mercedes and McLaren.
"We know what we need to do," Alonso stated. "The team is working incredibly hard, and I believe we can turn this around. But time is running short."
F1 fans will be watching closely to see if Aston Martin can address these issues before the next Grand Prix, where Alonso hopes to return to podium contention.
