Cowboys' Trevon Diggs Reveals Bizarre Home Injury That Cost Him 8 Games
Trevon Diggs reveals bizarre home injury sidelined him

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs has finally lifted the lid on the mysterious domestic incident that forced him to miss a significant chunk of the NFL season, revealing the details after a disappointing return to the field.

The Freak Accident Revealed

After being sidelined for eight games following the Cowboys' first six outings, Diggs broke his silence in the locker room this Sunday. The All-Pro defensive back confessed to reporters that the injury was sustained during a failed DIY project at home. Diggs explained that a television mounting pole, which was being fixed to a ceiling, suddenly gave way and struck him directly on the head.

According to NFL Network's Jane Slater, who was present for the revelation, Diggs admitted, 'I was trying to be a handyman.' He initially downplayed the severity of the concussion, not believing it required immediate medical attention. However, speculation online regarding his absence ran rampant in the absence of official details from the team.

A Compounded Recovery and Playoff Heartbreak

While the concussion was the immediate cause for his absence, Diggs's path back to the field was complicated by pre-existing knee issues. The cornerback, who suffered a devastating ACL tear in 2023, underwent further surgery on his knees in December 2024. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had previously stated that Diggs's knees were not sufficiently healthy for a return to action.

His long-awaited comeback in Week 16 was bittersweet. Diggs made his return on the same day the Cowboys were officially eliminated from playoff contention, following a 34-17 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. His performance was subdued, recording six tackles but no pass breakups as Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert found success against the Dallas defence.

An Uncertain Future in Dallas

The loss and elimination have sparked major questions about Diggs's future with the franchise. When asked by Slater if the defeat at AT&T Stadium might have been his final home game as a Cowboy, Diggs offered a blunt, one-word reply: 'Yeah.'

Despite signing a massive five-year, $97 million contract extension just two years ago, Diggs is now considered a prime candidate to be released as a cost-cutting measure. His production has dipped significantly since his spectacular 11-interception season in 2021, managing only five picks in his subsequent 37 games.

With the Cowboys' record now at 6-8-1 and their postseason dreams ended, the organisation is expected to commence a substantial overhaul. Diggs stated he will discuss his future with the Cowboys at the season's end, leaving his storied but recently injury-plagued tenure in Dallas on a cliffhanger.
