Swansea winger Iwan Glynn dislocates knee in St Helen's return

Swansea RFC wing Iwan Glynn dislocated his knee during the Whites' first match at the redeveloped St Helen's on Saturday. The game against Ebbw Vale was stopped for 15 minutes after the young winger was hurt while attempting to score in the corner, leaving players and spectators concerned by the severity of the incident.

Match halted as medics rush to aid

Medics from both teams rushed to Glynn's aid as the crowd watched on and the match was halted. He was subsequently taken to hospital, with Swansea later confirming he was "up and alert" following what the club described as a "major injury".

WalesOnline understands Glynn has suffered a dislocated knee, although the full extent of the damage will not be known until he undergoes an MRI scan. The injury is likely to leave the winger facing a significant spell out of the game.

Landmark occasion overshadowed

The incident cast a shadow over what had otherwise been a landmark occasion for Swansea RFC, who played the first match at the famous ground since the opening phase of its multi-million-pound redevelopment. Swansea ultimately suffered a narrow 27-26 defeat after conceding late in the game, but concern for Glynn was the overriding feeling at the final whistle.

The first phase of the redevelopment, funded by Swansea Council and the Ospreys, has included the installation of the new 4G playing surface. Further work will see new stands constructed and the clubhouse refurbished, with different elements of the project due to open in stages.

Future plans and Ospreys return

Plans include a new South Stand, a redeveloped West Stand and terrace, as well as a dedicated fan zone and additional hospitality facilities. The redevelopment is part of a wider effort to bring the historic ground up to date while retaining its status as one of Welsh rugby's most recognisable venues.

The Ospreys are scheduled to play their first match at the redeveloped St Helen's when they host Welsh rivals Dragons in a United Rugby Championship derby on Saturday, October 24.
