Arne Slot Slams 'Reckless' Van de Ven After Isak's Broken Leg
Slot: Van de Ven's 'Reckless' Tackle Broke Isak's Leg

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has launched a scathing attack on Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven, labelling his challenge on striker Alexander Isak as "reckless" after it was confirmed the player faces months out with a broken leg.

Serious Injury from a Controversial Tackle

The incident occurred during Liverpool's Premier League clash with Tottenham on Saturday, 21 December 2025. Alexander Isak suffered a fractured fibula in his ankle as he scored the opening goal, with Van de Ven diving in to attempt a block in the penalty area.

The £125 million signing was forced to undergo surgery and is now expected to be sidelined for a significant period. Slot confirmed the devastating news on Tuesday, 23 December, stating the striker would be out for "a couple of months."

Slot's Fury at 'Reckless' Van de Ven

While Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons was sent off in the same match for a studs-up challenge on Virgil van Dijk, Van de Ven escaped any punishment for his tackle on Isak. Slot drew a sharp distinction between the two incidents.

"For me it was a reckless challenge [on Isak]," Slot stated unequivocally. "I spoke a lot about the challenge from Xavi Simons which was completely unintentional. I don't think you'll ever get an injury from that tackle."

The Dutch coach emphasised the dangerous nature of Van de Ven's lunge, adding: "The tackle of Van de Ven, if you make it ten times, I think ten times there is a serious chance a player gets a serious injury."

Major Blow for Liverpool and Isak

The injury represents a severe setback for both the player and his club. Isak, who has scored just three goals since his record-breaking move, will miss a crucial part of the season during his recovery.

"It's going to be a long injury - a couple of months," Slot conceded. "A big disappointment for him and for us." The loss of their key striker will force Liverpool to adapt their attacking plans during the busy festive period and beyond.
