Manchester United star Manuel Ugarte has spoken out after the extent of his devastating injury was confirmed, and his teammates have reached out to support him following the news. The 25-year-old Uruguay international suffered a knee ligament injury during the World Cup match against Spain and was stretchered off the field.
Teammates Offer Support
Teammates including Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu, Ayden Heaven, and Tyler Fletcher have messaged Ugarte after he posted about his injury on Instagram. Mount wrote, "All here for you, brother," while Dalot said, "Together brother." Shaw added, "We are with you, brother." De Ligt and Dorgu posted red hearts, and Tottenham's Pedro Porro offered, "I love you brother."
Ugarte's Statement
Ugarte described his injury as the "most serious injury a footballer can face" and said the moment will stay with him for the rest of his life. In an Instagram post, he wrote: "A few days have passed since everything happened. Suffering the most serious injury a footballer can face in one of the most important matches in my country’s history, and seeing it end this way without being able to stay on the pitch and support my teammates until the final whistle, is something that will stay with me for the rest of my life." He added, "Hitting rock bottom will make me stronger in every sense, and I truly believe that’s the case here."
Recovery Outlook
Ugarte is set to be out for months, with Manchester United stating: "Assessment of the injury is ongoing to determine the best course of treatment and the rehabilitation timescale." The club and the Uruguayan Football Association have supported him since the incident. Ugarte concluded, "I’m incredibly grateful to @aufoficial and @manutd for being there for me from the moment it happened. A huge thank you as well to my family, my friends, and everyone who has sent me messages of support during this time. I’ll be back stronger."
