Reality TV star and singer Wes Nelson has been left nursing a serious injury after a disastrous return to the football pitch just before Christmas. The 27-year-old, who found fame on ITV2's Love Island in 2018, required hospital treatment after snapping his Achilles tendon.
A Painful Setback After Kickabout
On Monday, Wes took to his Instagram Story to document the painful aftermath of his ill-fated game. In a video posted while waiting to be seen by doctors, he could be seen holding his head in his hands as he explained the unfortunate incident. He captioned the clip: 'Decided to play football for the first time in years and snapped my Achilles.'
In a later update, the star showed followers his heavily bandaged foot. He humorously declared the end of his football career, writing: 'Nah, the game has absolutely gone. 27-years-old and I'm calling it a day. Golf and golf alone.'
A Rough Year of Misfortune
This injury caps off a difficult period for Nelson, who has been the victim of theft twice this year. In October, he revealed his golf bag and clubs had been stolen, prompting him to vent on Instagram: 'I actually hate what London has become. Twice in a year. Cheers.'
The first robbery occurred in January, when a designer Louis Vuitton bag worth £8,570 was stolen from a train as he travelled to Milton Keynes. Nelson explained the thief had subtly slid the bag from the overhead rack while he looked away. 'It took a split second to look away and that s**t was gone,' he wrote at the time, thankful he had removed his laptop containing unreleased music.
He later shared images of the distinctive, colourful luggage and offered a reward for its return with the contents intact.
Recovery and a Sporting Future in Golf
While the full extent of his recovery time is unclear, a snapped Achilles tendon typically requires a significant period of rehabilitation. His joking pledge to swap football for golf suggests his sporting pursuits will be far less strenuous in the near future. The incident serves as a stark reminder of how quickly a casual activity can lead to a serious setback, even for a fit young celebrity.
