Lions' Jack Campbell hospitalised with neck injury

Detroit Lions All-Pro linebacker Jack Campbell was taken to a local hospital after sustaining a neck injury during the fourth quarter of his team's 19-15 victory over the Minnesota Vikings.

Campbell, a first-team All-Pro last season, was injured while tackling Vikings tight end TJ Hockenson. The 26-year-old lay motionless facing the ground and was surrounded by medical personnel for nine minutes while being strapped to a board. He did not signal to the Ford Field crowd as he was driven off on a cart toward the tunnel.

Coach and teammates react

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said after the game: “Thoughts and prayers are with Jack and his family. He's being taken care of. We don't have any new information. We'll keep you updated as this thing goes. But we are thinking about him. We are thinking about him.”

Speaking to the Lions Radio Network, Dan Campbell added: “He's breathing, he's alert when he left.”

Quarterback shaken

Lions quarterback Jared Goff was shaken up while observing the situation. “Jack's deal was definitely scary,” Goff said. “It just brings you back to reality for a moment that he's a husband and a father. Scary. We're praying for him and hope he's going to be alright. If anyone is tough enough to get through something like that, it's going to be him.”

Campbell, a fourth-year pro, was credited with three tackles prior to the injury. He has 57 this season after a career-high 176 last season. The Lions picked him in the first round of the 2023 draft.
