Popular sports broadcaster Laura Woods has opened up about her ongoing battle with a facial scar, admitting the injury has significantly impacted her confidence. The 38-year-old TNT Sports and Amazon Prime presenter is undergoing intensive laser treatment in a bid to improve the scar's appearance, more than 18 months after a freak accident.
The Accident and Emergency Surgery
In May 2024, Laura Woods suffered a horrific eye injury while on a romantic getaway with her fiancé, former Love Island star Adam Collard. The accident occurred when a light fitting shattered after she attempted to throw a pillow at Collard. Pieces of the broken shade fell onto her head and back, causing severe lacerations.
She was rushed to a hospital in London for emergency plastic surgery. The injuries were so severe she was forced to pull out of presenting coverage for the high-profile Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk boxing match just days later. Woods has since shared graphic images of the aftermath, showing deep cuts above and below her eye which she said went "down to the bone," as well as wounds on the back of her arms.
The Road to Recovery and Treatment
In a candid update on her Instagram Story, Woods explained she is now trying a "big f laser" to help the scar's appearance. She described the process as both "painful and expensive," joking that it left her looking like she'd "been in a toaster." Despite the discomfort, she remains hopeful the treatment will be worthwhile.
Her recovery journey was paused when she and Collard discovered she was pregnant following the accident. This meant she had to "stop treatment and focus on the little person." Their son, Leo, was born in January 2025, and Woods says motherhood helped take her mind off the scars.
Impact on Confidence and Moving Forward
When a follower asked if the experience had affected her confidence, Woods was unequivocal. "Yeah definitely (I have lost confidence)," she wrote. "I can see the scars in photos, when I smile, frown etc." She added that even though the scar is "a million times better" than it was, she remains "very conscious of it."
Beyond the laser, she has undergone extensive red light therapy. She admitted there was an "ugly phase where the scars seem like they're regressing," which she light-heartedly called the "Bear Grylls stage." Despite the challenges, Woods is now in a much better place, focusing on her family life with Collard, to whom she became engaged in September 2024 in St Ives, Cornwall.
