The strange event unfolded during the second quarter of the Heat's clash with the Dallas Mavericks at the American Airlines Center. As Herro prepared to shoot a technical free throw, referee Jenne Reneau passed the ball to him. The Heat star, however, was practicing his shooting form and did not see the ball coming. The pass bounced directly into Herro's groin, causing him to double over in immediate pain.
Referee Reneau quickly rushed over to check on the player and offer an apology. In the heat of the moment, a visibly frustrated Herro swatted the ball away and appeared to dismiss her concern. Remarkably, the incident did not prevent Herro from completing his duty at the free-throw line. Shortly after the painful encounter, he stepped up and made the shot, cutting the Mavericks' lead to ten points at halftime. Herro finished the night with 20 points, all scored in the first two quarters, alongside four rebounds.
However, online observers noted that Herro failed to add to his tally after the second-quarter mishap. His scoring drought coincided with the Heat ultimately falling to a 118-108 defeat, their eighth loss of the season.

While Herro's misfortune stole headlines, the Dallas Mavericks secured a convincing win led by their standout performers. Rookie sensation Cooper Flagg impressed with 22 points, six rebounds, and two assists in 31 minutes of play. Veteran big man Anthony Davis also delivered a superb all-around display, contributing 17 points, 17 rebounds, and four assists for the home side.
The Heat will look to bounce back when they face the Orlando Magic on Friday night. The Mavericks, meanwhile, also return to court on Friday for a tough test against the reigning champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
