Harry Redknapp Reveals 'Dangerous' Diagnosis and Wife Sandra's Sepsis Scare
Harry Redknapp's 'Dangerous' Diagnosis and Wife's Sepsis Scare

Legendary football manager Harry Redknapp is hoping to win the I'm a Celebrity crown for a second time ahead of Friday's live final. The 79-year-old jetted off to South Africa to film the All Stars edition, with the winner to be announced in London.

The past few months have been eventful for Redknapp. He was linked with a sensational return to former club Tottenham earlier this season, despite retiring from management in 2017. The FA Cup winner is also a well-known racehorse owner, with The Jukebox Man putting up a strong showing in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March before fading late on.

Away from sport, Redknapp opened up about his health last month, just before the new I'm a Celeb series began on ITV. He has revealed notable health scares for both himself and his wife Sandra.

Redknapp's 'Dangerous' Diagnosis

The former Portsmouth and West Ham United boss disclosed that he had been diagnosed with hearing loss after his wife Sandra urged him to get checked. The couple appeared on ITV's This Morning, where Harry admitted he could have put himself and others at risk had his condition gone undetected.

Chatting to presenters Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard, Redknapp explained he first noticed a problem while driving. He failed to hear his indicators and inadvertently left them flashing, drawing reactions from fellow motorists. 'Suddenly, I thought all these blokes must know me,' he said. 'They were all going past, sticking fingers up to me! They must be all Arsenal fans, all shouting!'

Redknapp described the ordeal as 'dangerous', adding: 'It could have caused accidents.' Sandra recalled moments before her husband started using a hearing aid that might be seen as signs. 'He used to say I was whispering when I wasn't whispering,' she said. 'Then, if we went out for dinner and there was a group of people, I could sense that he wasn't hearing the conversation or joining in.'

Sandra's Sepsis Scare

Harry and Sandra have been married since 1968, and the football icon regularly spoke about his wife during his first I'm a Celeb jungle appearance. However, he was left stunned when Sandra was taken to hospital with sepsis in 2018 after a kidney infection. Redknapp described the circumstances as 'very scary', having not known about the condition beforehand.

In September 2025, he spearheaded a campaign for the UK Sepsis Trust to raise public awareness. 'Luckily, we did [go to hospital]. Otherwise, she could have been in a lot of trouble,' he told the BBC. 'It was a big shock.'

I'm a Celeb Return

Redknapp took his final managerial role at Birmingham City, leaving in 2017, then introduced himself to audiences beyond football when he was crowned King of the Jungle the following year. He participated in the 18th series alongside singer Fleur East and TV presenter Noel Edmonds.

The 79-year-old has returned for the second All Stars series. The live final will be broadcast from London and open to a public vote. Redknapp joined the camp on day six alongside ex-Premier League footballer Jimmy Bullard, who came through West Ham's ranks when Redknapp was first-team manager. The first All Stars series was won by Myleene Klass in 2023.
