Lewis Hamilton retired from the Spanish Grand Prix after just a few laps with a brakes failure. The seven-time world champion started fourth and enjoyed a great launch, even sniffing out an opportunity to challenge for the lead before pulling out at the first corner.
Early duel with Verstappen
That then pitted him in a fight with Max Verstappen for third place which saw the Red Bull racer go off track to avoid a collision. The Dutchman was then told by his team to give the position to Hamilton and that led to a furious radio message, though Verstappen did eventually comply with the order.
Brake pedal 'going long'
But it did not matter in the end anyway as, moments later, Hamilton took to the radio to report that his brake pedal was "going long". Not long after, he suffered a spin and began tumbling down the order as he struggled to get his Ferrari stopped for corners.
The retirement caps a miserable Sunday for Hamilton at the Madring, following a promising start that ultimately came to nothing.
