Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha has reportedly suffered an accident during training, forcing him to miss a scheduled public appearance. The Brazilian was due to switch on the Christmas lights in Altrincham on Saturday evening, but VisitAltrincham announced his absence due to medical reasons.
The organisation posted on Instagram: "Unfortunately, Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight's Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons." The club has yet to issue a statement regarding the incident.
Cunha had returned to Carrington to link up with manager Ruben Amorim and his team-mates ahead of Monday's Premier League clash against Everton. The match comes after an international break, with United aiming to extend their five-game unbeaten run, which includes wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton, and draws with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.
The Red Devils sit 10th in the table after 11 matches, eight points behind leaders Arsenal. However, Amorim faces several injury concerns beyond Cunha. Benjamin Sesko is sidelined with a knee injury until December, while Harry Maguire is out with a hamstring problem. Kobbie Mainoo missed the last match due to injury but could return for Monday's game.
In positive news, defender Lisandro Martinez is close to a full return after an ACL injury suffered in February. He trained with Argentina during the break and Amorim confirmed: "Licha is getting close to be playing." Martinez could feature against Everton at Old Trafford.
