Springboks fly half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is set to undergo scans on an ankle injury sustained during the Stormers' United Rugby Championship quarter-final win over Cardiff. The 24-year-old was injured while scoring a try in the 44-21 victory at DHL Stadium and was later seen on crutches.
Stormers head coach John Dobson described the injury as 'pretty serious', saying: 'He's obviously going for a scan. The doctors have given me some feedback, but it looks like a proper ankle injury.' Dobson added that Feinberg-Mngomezulu had been cramping before the incident and looked uncomfortable when running back.
The injury is a significant blow for both the Stormers and South Africa. Feinberg-Mngomezulu has established himself as one of world rugby's most exciting talents and made the Springboks' No 10 jersey his own during an excellent 2025. His potential absence would be a major setback for head coach Rassie Erasmus ahead of the Nations Championship and the Rugby's Greatest Rivalry series against New Zealand.
The Springboks begin their Nations Championship campaign against England in Johannesburg on 4 July, followed by matches against Wales and Scotland. They also face the All Blacks in four Tests later this year. The Stormers will now travel to face Leinster in the URC semi-final next Saturday.
In other injury news, back rower Kwagga Smith is also a major doubt after reports in Japan suggest he has suffered a serious knee injury.
