Blockx Retires from US Open Quarter-Final vs Khachanov

Alexander Blockx's US Open campaign has ended after he was forced to retire from his quarter-final match against Karen Khachanov. The 21-year-old exited the tournament at 2-3 down in the third set due to injury.

Injury Concerns Before the Match

Blockx had admitted he was “worried” about the quarter-final after picking up an injury during his four-set victory over Francisco Cerundolo on Monday. He had complained of a 'sharp pain' in his rib during that match.

Historic Run Comes to an End

Earlier in the tournament, Blockx made history by becoming the first Belgian man to reach the US Open quarter-finals. His retirement against Khachanov brings that run to a sudden close.
