Manchester United's return to the Champions League for the 2026/27 season was confirmed nearly four months ago, but the reality of their comeback to European football's top table is starting to sink in following the league phase draw.
United's eight league phase opponents
United will face Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Roma, Sporting, RB Leipzig, Villarreal, Sabah and Como across their eight league matches. Finishing in the top eight of the 32-team table would secure automatic qualification for the knockout rounds, while a finish between ninth and 24th would send them into the play-off round.
The club has not played a knockout Champions League tie since March 2022, when they were beaten 2-1 on aggregate by Atletico Madrid, and they will hope to change that statistic this season.
