Russell Martin has warned Leicester City fans they do not need a "quick fix" in the dugout as he faces major pressure, a year after he was shown the door by Rangers. The Englishman dipped into his ill-fated Ibrox playbook to tell supporters he is just as frustrated as them as City tumble down the table.
Martin's Rangers exit and Leicester struggles
Last October, the axe fell on Martin at Ibrox after just seven Scottish Premiership games in charge with only a single league win to his name. He had 17 games in total with five victories and paid the price for a horror start to the season which included a 9-1 Champions League play-off hammering by Club Brugge.
Martin is now in charge of the fallen Premier League winners in League One, but a lacklustre 3-1 loss to Peterborough has seen a number of Foxes fans hit their breaking point. Supporters could be audibly heard singing 'your football is s***' as some called for him to be axed as the club fell to another defeat. The former Premier League champions now sit in 17th spot in the English third tier, just a point outside of the relegation zone.
Martin's message to fans
In the final days of his Rangers tenure, Martin told irked supporters: "We're all frustrated. Everyone's feeling it. Whilst the fans are feeling it, we're inside the building, we're feeling it more than anyone."
The City boss told BBC's 'When You're Smiling': "I can't criticise the fans. They have seen another defeat. I am just as frustrated as them. But if you think changing the manager is a quick fix, l am not sure that is ever the way. It is our job to turn the fans energy. They were great when it went 3-1. A lot of people left because they were hurt by the first half. So was I.
"The chants are what they are, we have to keep our heads down and keep working really hard. I have to accept the personal stuff because l am in charge of the team and I have to take responsibility. It has been difficult here for a few years. I am just as frustrated as anyone sitting in the stands at the goals we concede and what I see because Monday to Friday I don't see that. It is no fault of the atmosphere or the fans, whether we go home or away we have to run and fight. When we have a shaky moment we don't respond in the right way. We spoke about this but we don't do it."
