Clyde boss hails subs after last-gasp win at Annan

Clyde returned to winning ways in League Two with a dramatic 2-1 victory at Annan, thanks to an 89th-minute winner from substitute Kyle Connell.

The Bully Wee had taken the lead through Scott Williamson's opener on the half-hour mark, but were pegged back 10 minutes later when Aidan Smith equalised for the hosts.

Subs combine for winner

With the game heading for a draw, substitutes Jack Anderson and Kyle Connell combined in the 89th minute. Anderson's cross was initially blocked in the box, but Connell was on hand to net the decisive goal.

Manager Darren Young praised his bench for their impact, telling the club media: "You can see the quality we can bring on. Kyle comes on and gets the goal, wee Ando comes on and sets up the goal. Everyone played their part in a solid performance."

Defensive resilience

Young also highlighted his side's defensive display, saying: "Defensively we had to stand up and be counted and defended our box magnificently."

He acknowledged the nature of the victory, adding: "It was a scrap, that's for sure. I felt we played a lot better last week and came away with nothing [in a defeat to Stranraer]. This week we kept going until the end and sometimes it doesn't matter how you do it, you just need to get those three points and that's what we did."

Relief and league position

Young described the reaction to the winner as "great and a huge relief", noting: "You could see from the reaction of the players and the bench, it was great and a huge relief to get the points when it was looking like a draw. It is one of those games where you get the points and that's the main thing."

Clyde sit third in League Two, behind joint leaders Elgin City and Forfar, who visit New Douglas Park this Saturday.
