Live coverage of the Diamond League on BBC Two was interrupted on Saturday evening due to technical difficulties, prompting host Sarah Mulkerrins to issue a live apology to viewers.
The world's leading athletes gathered at the King Baudouin Stadium in Belgium on Saturday (September 5) for the latest Diamond League meet. British sprinting star Amy Hunt, fresh from winning four gold medals at the 2026 European Championships, competed in the women's 100 metres, hoping to improve on her two second-place finishes in Oslo and Stockholm.
Host apologises for microphone issues
Sarah Mulkerrins hosted the live coverage on BBC Two, which began at 7pm. She opened the broadcast by saying: "Our first 16 champions crowned, no fewer than six meeting records, two Diamond League records, and a world leading performance. Hopefully, much more of the same for you this evening."
Later, after the women's 100 metres hurdles final, the commentary team faced issues with their microphones. After several moments of silence, Mulkerrins explained: "So just apologies for the moment, we're experiencing some technical difficulties, I think, with one of the microphones from our commentary team in Brussels."
Coverage resumes after brief interruption
As live coverage from the women's pole vault was played, she continued: "But that was a really good clearance from the young American Hana Moll, clearing 4.86 in the women's pole vault. So, it looks like she's fully in control there."
She added: "So, we are halfway through this Diamond League meet this Saturday night, the second night. 16 Diamond League champions to be crowned tonight and we have seen plenty of great action so far. Coming up next on the track, we're gonna have the 3000 metres steeplechase for the men, and then, just at about 8.40pm, we'll have the 800 metres final for the women, with Femke Broeders-Bol and Audrey Werro going in that one. And then we will have the 400 metres hurdles for the men to finish it off."
The technical issues were soon resolved, as Mulkerrins confirmed: "I think we can get back to our commentary team now." Coverage then continued as the men competed in the javelin throw on the field.
