Zampa Edges Australia Past Bangladesh to Avoid Whitewash

Adam Zampa struck the winning boundary with three balls to spare as Australia beat Bangladesh by one wicket in the third and final ODI in Mirpur, avoiding a series whitewash. The hosts won the series 2-1.

Connolly's Maiden Ton

Cooper Connolly came of age with his maiden international ton, smashing 149 off 133 balls to guide Australia to a nail-biting victory. The young West Australian defied cramps and hit 13 fours and six sixes in a masterful innings.

Late Collapse

Australia cruised at five for 266 before suffering a four-for-five collapse, with Connolly the last wicket to fall, leaving them at nine for 271. Zampa then drove Taskin Ahmed through the covers for four to seal the win.

Recalled left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam was the chief destroyer for Bangladesh, taking six for 48. He could have had seven wickets had Tanzid Hasan not dropped Zampa at wide slip.

Bangladesh's Innings

Earlier, Bangladesh posted five for 274 thanks to half-centuries from Towhid Hridoy (83), Litton Das (58 not out) and Mosaddek Hossain (56 not out). Australia made a perfect start when Soumya Sarkar was bowled in the first over, and Matt Renshaw removed Tanzid and stand-in captain Najmul Hossain Shanto to leave the Tigers at three for 61.

Towhid then shared partnerships of 92 with Litton and 93 with Mosaddek to steer Bangladesh towards a competitive total.

Series Win

Bangladesh's 2-1 series win was their fourth straight in ODIs and their first ever against Australia. The two teams will now play a three-game T20 series starting in Chittagong on Wednesday.
