Masters Crowd's Heartwarming Demand as Golfers' Children Steal the Show
Masters Crowd Cheers for Golfers' Kids in Par Three Contest

In a heartwarming display of sportsmanship and family spirit, the Masters Par Three contest delivered a memorable highlight as the crowd passionately rallied behind the children of top golfers Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, and Shane Lowry. The scene unfolded on the picturesque ninth hole, where young Frankie Fleetwood, Poppy McIlroy, and Iris Lowry took centre stage, capturing the hearts of spectators with their determined efforts.

A Viral Moment of Determination

Frankie Fleetwood, who gained viral fame last year for his candid interview about practising to clear the water hazard, was the focal point of the day. The youngster had been diligently working on his swing throughout the year, eagerly anticipating this moment. As he stood over the tee with his driver, Frankie expressed his simple goal: "I just feel happy, I just want to get it over the water for them." Despite a lovely swing, his first attempt narrowly missed the green, landing in the water, but the crowd's reaction was nothing short of brilliant.

Cheering for Second Chances

Following Frankie's initial shot, the enthusiastic crowd surrounding the course erupted in cheers, demanding that the children be given another opportunity. This collective support led to a second round of attempts, with Iris Lowry stepping up first. Her shot, too, fell just short, dropping into the water, but the spirit of the moment remained undimmed.

Frankie's second attempt also came up slightly short, yet the scene was filled with positivity as high-fives were exchanged among the group. The young golfer wore a huge smile, undeterred by the outcome. Similarly, Poppy McIlroy narrowly missed a putt on the green, but the families shared a heartfelt hug before moving on, encapsulating the day's joyful atmosphere.

Family Bonds and Tournament Traditions

Tommy Fleetwood, who had celebrated a hole-in-one earlier in the day, reflected on his son's journey and the significance of the Par Three contest. He shared, "He obviously very positively thinks he can. As long as he hits a good shot, I’m kind of OK with it. I’m excited to go there, I’m excited to play. Frankie, you know, will be trying his hardest. We've had conversations. Frankie is very set on what he's doing. He's very excited, and he knows what he's doing."

Fleetwood emphasised the unique nature of the Masters, highlighting how the Par Three contest serves as a special prelude for families. He noted, "I always say one of the most special things about the Masters is for us as players. Having something so unique as something that's so special for the family right before it on a Wednesday, I just think is amazing. I think it's one of the most special things about the week."

A Growing Tradition

Revealing a personal connection, Fleetwood mentioned that his youngest son has attended all but one of his previous nine Masters appearances, with the first being the only exception due to his birth. "Yeah, we talk about it all the time," the Southport-born golfer said. "I just love the fact that we spoke - this is my 10th Masters, and except for the first one where he wasn't born yet, he's been at every one. Frankie's growing up. Every year you see him get that little bit older at the Masters. I think more than anything the pressure is on me to keep making the Masters until he reaches the green on the ninth."

The Masters Par Three contest continues to be a cherished tradition, blending competitive golf with family moments that resonate deeply with players and fans alike. This year's edition, marked by the crowd's brilliant demand and the children's spirited performances, added another layer of warmth to the prestigious tournament.
