Trump Granddaughter Commits to Miami Hurricanes Golf

Kai Trump, the granddaughter of former President Donald Trump, has formally committed to the University of Miami's women's golf programme, solidifying her place in the Miami golf recruiting class for the Hurricanes. The 17-year-old daughter of Donald Trump Jr. had her decision confirmed by the university on Wednesday, 12th November 2025, the inaugural day of the NCAA Division I signing period for most sports.

A Long-Awaited Decision and High-Profile Debut

Kai Trump's commitment to the University of Miami was initially made in August 2024, a choice she never wavered from. She officially signed her letter of intent last week during a ceremony at her high school, located near the Mar-a-Lago estate in West Palm Beach. NCAA regulations prevented the university from acknowledging her signing until the official window opened.

Her entry into the world of professional golf is already underway, as she is making her LPGA debut this week at The Annika tournament at Pelican Golf Club, playing on a sponsor's exemption. At a news conference there, she explained her reasons for choosing Miami, stating, "I love the coaches. It’s close to home. Great school. I love the people there." She also noted that her cousins attended the university, giving her familiarity with the institution.

Navigating the Spotlight and Refining Her Game

Kai Trump is no stranger to public attention. A social media influencer, her behind-the-scenes election night video garnered over 5.1 million views on YouTube, and her Ryder Cup footage with her grandfather attracted around 2 million views. She frequently plays golf with the former president, confirming, "We play a lot. We have a great time out there."

Hall of Famer Annika Sorenstam, who played with Kai Trump recently, expressed admiration for the young golfer's resilience and curiosity. "I just don’t know how she does it, honestly," Sorenstam said. "To be 17 years old and hear all the comments, she must be super tough on the inside." Sorenstam was notably impressed with Kai's power off the tee, while Kai herself acknowledges that her short game is a work in progress.

A New Era for Miami Golf

Miami Hurricanes coach Janice Olivencia welcomed the new recruit, recognising the increased exposure she will bring to the programme. "We view any potential exposure as positive for Miami golf," Olivencia stated. She described Kai Trump as a "multi-sport athlete with a strong competitive spirit" who brings "tremendous energy and excitement." The coach expressed confidence in her current team's ability to handle the heightened attention with composure.

The university is preparing to offer Kai Trump as normal a college experience as possible, leveraging its robust support systems and resources. While her presence is anticipated to draw significant focus to women's golf at the university, the team is committed to integrating her seamlessly, ensuring she has the same access and opportunities as all other student-athletes from the moment she steps on campus.
