England international Immanuel Feyi-Waboso had a drink thrown in his face by a Bath supporter as tensions spilled over into the stands during Exeter Chiefs' shock victory at The Recreation Ground.
Match Incident
The incident occurred during a fractious afternoon in Bath, with emotions running high as the visitors produced a stunning upset against the Premiership leaders. Despite trailing 26-10 at the break, Exeter launched a stunning second-half comeback to triumph 27-26 against the defending champions.
Bath laid siege to the Exeter line at the death; outside-half Santiago Carreras rejected the easy option of a drop goal while the hosts were also held up over the line in the final play of the game.
Player Involvement
As Exeter booked their place in the Gallagher Prem final against Northampton Saints at Allianz Stadium Twickenham next Saturday, Chiefs players not included in the matchday 23 were in the stands. Feyi-Waboso, who was not drinking, could be seen clearly on TNT Sports' coverage vociferously singing and cheering on his teammates.
According to MailOnline, the Cardiff-born wing, who is currently sidelined with a broken jaw, had a gin and tonic thrown in his face by a Bath supporter who ended up with a ripped T-shirt.
Fan Behavior
The BathBytes podcast, who were at the ground, described the Exeter players in the stand as rumbustious, with the visiting fans feeding off the rumbustiousness of the players. As a result, the atmosphere in that section of the ground reached a level of unrest, with one female Exeter supporter allegedly threatening to take Bath fans out the back and punch their heads in while also calling them p******.
She also allegedly started vaping in her seat, which is not allowed in the ground, and after the final whistle started to hug the Exeter players despite many Bath fans in that area being visibly upset and uncomfortable.
Aftermath
Complaints were made to the stewards. Both Bath and Exeter have been approached for comment.
