Dundee United land World Cup bargain Jesse Randall says NZ boss

New Zealand boss Darren Bazeley reckons Dundee United have bagged themselves a real bargain signing his World Cup star Jesse Randall.

United made the attacker one of their first summer signings when they signed him on a pre-contract from Auckland FC at the turn of the year.

Randall is currently out in America with the Kiwi's squad, as they prepare for their World Cup opener against Iran on Tuesday.

Bazeley believes his winger will do well in Scotland and reckons United has pulled off a major coup getting him on a free transfer.

"It is a really good pick up from Dundee United," Bazeley claimed.

"They probably got in there at the right time. They got a deal done early before Jesse really hit the headlines and made a name for himself.

"They were able to get him at the turn of the year on a pre-contract.

"I have to say Dundee United have picked up a really good bargain.

"If you look at the way he finished the A-League and has now made our World Cup squad, if he had still been under contract then you would have been looking at a big-money fee.

"United have done things quite cleverly and it has been a good move.

"I think he will do well in Scotland.

"He is exciting.

"He is one that the Dundee United fans will like to watch.

"I would say that Jesse is a good player and he can kick on again."

The All Whites boss knows that Randall is the kind of player that will really excite the United fans. He will make and create in the final third.

Randall is looking to make a name for himself after finishing as one of the top stars in the A-League. Elijah Just lit up the Premiership at Motherwell last season and Randall will be looking to follow in those footsteps.

Bazeley, who had his own spell in British football with Watford, explained: "He is going across to Scotland.

"Jesse is a good player.

"He is a different player to Eli, although they are both of a similar stature.

"Jesse has pace and is quick.

"He has played at times as a central striker, but he is a bit more of an out-and-out winger.

"He likes playing out on the left but he is right-footed.

"Jesse also has a good left foot.

"He is one of those wingers who can take you down the line or can quite easily cut inside and get a shot away.

"Jesse has had a really good season with Auckland in the A-League.

"He has scored a lot of goals, chipped in with a few assists and he was also named in the league's team of the year.

"Jesse was up there amongst the top scorers and that was a good return because he had played most of his football out on the wing.

"He really is coming off an excellent season."

Randall already has the backing of one of New Zealand's biggest stars. Bazeley admitted that Nottingham Forest star Chris Wood is a big fan of United's new signing.

"We have Chris Wood in camp," Bazeley confirmed.

"Chris loves Jesse, as a player.

"Chris knows he is going to get balls into the box and will provide good deliveries.

"He is a different player for us.

"We have a lot of Eli-type players, who play inside, centrally on in that No. 10 position.

"Jesse can give us width. He loves to take people on one v one.

"He eliminates defenders with his pace."
