Zhao Xintong Dominates John Higgins in Tour Championship Semi-Final
World snooker champion Zhao Xintong delivered a masterclass performance at the Tour Championship, defeating veteran John Higgins with a resounding 10-1 victory in the semi-finals held at Manchester Central Convention Complex. The Chinese star's commanding display not only secured his place in Sunday's final against world number one Judd Trump but also left television pundits Alan McManus and Matthew Stevens virtually speechless.
Pundits Left in Awe by Zhao's Precision
During the match, Zhao executed what commentator Alan McManus described as "the finest shot I have ever witnessed." In the sixth frame, with a red ball covering half the pocket, Zhao managed a remarkable long pot that left McManus struggling for words. "He only has half a pocket, but he barely hits the cue ball; it is mesmerising," McManus exclaimed. "You run out of things to say. I am glad I was not in the comms box, as you would not know what to say."
Former UK champion Matthew Stevens echoed this sentiment, comparing Zhao's precision to technology. "He only had half a pocket to aim at. It is just like a laser, it is unbelievable," Stevens said. "He is like a machine; it is fantastic to watch. He is like watching a computer game; he literally does not miss anything easy. His long potting puts you under all sorts of pressure to get good safety."
Zhao's Impressive Season Continues
Zhao, aged 29, has been in exceptional form this season, reaching four finals and winning all three of his previous finals this year. His victories include triumphs over Higgins in February, as well as successes at the Players Championship in Telford and the World Grand Prix in Hong Kong. Additionally, he claimed the non-ranking Riyadh Season Championship in Saudi Arabia by defeating Neil Robertson in November.
Reflecting on his performance against Higgins, Zhao expressed his delight. "I played well, and I am very happy to reach the final," he said. "My cueing was very good, I tried not to think too much – I just enjoyed the table and concentrated on the balls. This season I have been in four finals. I am enjoying every moment and trying to get better."
Upcoming Final Against Judd Trump
The victory sets up a highly anticipated final against Judd Trump, marking the first time Zhao will face Trump in a final. Zhao acknowledged the challenge ahead, stating, "To play Judd in a final for the first time will be a big moment for me. It will be very tough." Notably, Zhao knocked out Trump in the semi-finals of the Riyadh Season Championship late last year with a 4-3 win, their last encounter to date.
The audience at Manchester Central erupted in applause during Zhao's stunning shot, highlighting the electric atmosphere of the match. As Zhao continues his impressive run, snooker fans eagerly await the final showdown, where he aims to maintain his perfect record in finals this season.
