Former Manchester United star Ashley Young has warned that Antonio Conte would be a "disaster" should he replace current manager Michael Carrick at Old Trafford.
Carrick is under pressure after a dismal start to the season, and United chiefs are due to hold crisis talks in the coming days to decide his immediate future. Conte, who has been out of work since leaving Napoli, has been linked with the role.
Young's Warning Based on Inter Experience
Young, who played under Conte at Inter Milan, shared his concerns on The Overlap, saying: "I've worked underneath him at Inter. He's crazy by the way, crazy."
He added: "A lot of talk has been about Man United's running stats. If they're not going to run and Antonio Conte goes in there, it's going to be a disaster I think."
Young also described Conte's training methods as intense and time-consuming, noting that meetings could last for hours after a defeat.
Meulensteen Also Against Appointment
Rene Meulensteen, former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson, has also voiced opposition to Conte's potential appointment. Speaking to talkSPORT, he said: "I've seen that name being said and I would not be a supporter of that appointment at all."
He added: "I think that would maybe get a very short uplift but it would come crashing down really, really quickly knowing the way that Conte goes about his job."
Meulensteen attributed the club's struggles to ownership, saying: "The problem is that the ownership has Manchester United in a headlock. That's the problem and they can't get out of it."
