Wrexham have kicked off their winter transfer activity by securing the services of defender Zak Vyner from Bristol City in a deal believed to be worth £1.5million. The Red Dragons announced on Sunday evening that the 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a contract running until the conclusion of the 2028-29 season, with an option for an additional year.
Vyner said: "I'm over the moon. Wrexham's ambition and the project already underway - the back-to-back-to-back promotions - is something you can't help but admire from afar. Now I'm involved, I can't wait to play my part."
Before Vyner's arrival, all of the Welsh outfit's activity this window had centred on departures, with Paul Mullin, Conor Coady and Andy Cannon leaving on loan. Club captain James McClean and striker Jake Bickerstaff also made permanent switches. However, club officials have confirmed that manager Phil Parkinson has funds at his disposal.
Wrexham have been eyeing several right-wing-back options. Issa Kabore, on loan from Manchester City, has performed admirably when fit, but his season has been marred by injuries. Early contenders included Hampus Skoglund and Yan Valery; more recently, Kosta Nedeljkovic, Idrissa Toure, and Terry Devlin have emerged.
Attacking midfielder Elliot Lee, a crowd favourite, has yet to make a league appearance this season. Parkinson has mooted a loan move for the 31-year-old, with the club optimistic a resolution can be reached before the deadline.
Wrexham are also eager to bolster their attack. They previously considered a club-record £19m bid for Sidiki Cherif, but the teenager chose Fenerbahce. Reports suggest an offer for Barnsley's Davis Keillor-Dunn, while Sammie Szmodics and Bailey Cadamarteri are also on the radar. Striker Ryan Hardie, signed last summer, has found game time scarce and is a target for Bolton Wanderers, but Parkinson will only approve a departure if a replacement is brought in.
