Danny Imray has signed a four-year contract at Wrexham after joining from Crystal Palace for a fee of around £5m. The 23-year-old wing-back spent last season on loan at Championship side West Brom.
Wrexham are now looking to follow up that signing with a statement move for Leicester City defender Harry Souttar as part of their push for a Premier League promotion.
Defensive issues to address
Phil Parkinson's side conceded 65 goals in 46 Championship games last season - more than relegated Oxford United and the three clubs immediately above them. While finishing seventh was an achievement, those numbers highlight clear room for improvement.
Souttar in demand
Australia international Souttar is keen to leave Leicester after the club's relegation to League One. The Foxes are looking to recoup much of the £15m they paid Stoke City for him in 2023 and have set a price of around £10m.
West Ham and Sheffield United are both interested. West Ham are the title favourites but face immense pressure to bounce straight back up, and a poor start could quickly turn the London Stadium toxic.
Sheffield United have history with the 27-year-old, having taken him on loan for the 2024/25 season. Their offer of another loan has been rejected, and talks over a permanent deal are continuing, though the impasse suggests they are struggling to meet Leicester's valuation.
Wrexham's advantage
Wrexham, by contrast, are able to meet the fee and come without the baggage of a recent relegation or an unhappy fanbase.
Souttar has just played for his country at the World Cup and is entering his prime. He wants Premier League football, and a move to Wrexham would offer that opportunity while sending out another message that the club mean business this season.
