Wrexham are reportedly considering a move for veteran striker Steven Fletcher as they aim to strengthen their squad for a sustained Championship push. The club, currently sixth in the table, is planning for a potential Premier League future, with off-field developments accelerating rapidly.
Since the Hollywood takeover by Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds five years ago, the club has expanded from 17 staff to over 150, with new hires arriving almost daily. The infrastructure is being upgraded to top-flight standards, including a new £1.7 million pitch and a planned 5,500-seat Kop stand designed by the architects of the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and the Las Vegas Sphere.
However, the new stand has faced delays due to planning, funding, and environmental issues, and is not expected to be completed until April or May next year. In the meantime, the club operates from a three-sided ground with a capacity of 10,600, and a new reception area has been carved out of a former broom cupboard.
Despite these challenges, Wrexham's leadership is confident about reaching the Premier League. Chief executive Michael Williamson recently stated at the Financial Times Business of Football conference that the club is actively planning for the top flight, viewing promotion as a matter of when, not if.
On the pitch, manager Phil Parkinson's side is preparing for an FA Cup fifth-round tie against Chelsea this Saturday. The club's rapid rise from the National League to the Championship has been remarkable, and adding a player of Fletcher's experience could provide the firepower needed to maintain momentum.
